BMP or Texture ?

Im creating a 2D game and wanted a scrolling background, question is do i load the bmp and animate or do i load it as a texture onto a flat object ? Which way is best and why ? Regards G

The answer to your question is mostly about preference since the speed gain/loss in either case is quite miniscule.

I'd reccomend that if all of your sprites are textured quads to continue with that way of coding your game.
The same goes for the other way around.

Although, if the scrolling background needs to be rotated or scaled in real-time (as some kind of special effect, or something of the sort) then you would do best to go with the textured quad layout since that way you will get hardware scaling and rotating. (That is if the API you are using does rotations and scaling in hardware, which is very highly probable)
