does anyone know if you need a web driver of some sort to make browser games such as the www.popcap.com games. I''m not sure if they just use applets? Anyone know?

Or make your own ActiveX control which makes use of DirectX or OpenGL (or similar)

The games at popcap (at least the ones I''ve seen) are Java applets. I don''t know which version of Java they use though. Anything higher than 1.1 requires the user to have the JRE installed.

Because by default win9x and later have MS''s 1.1 VM built it.

Of course this is irrelevant if you use a *nix OS, and longhorn won''t come with this either (which means random joe user might actually take the time to upgrade to the current version).
