DX9 SDK for Managed Code in VB.NET

Hello everyone, I am new to these forums so I bid you all a warm HELLO! Anyway... I am a VB6/VB.NET developer currently working exclusively in vb.net. I am interested in game programming and have been experimenting in DarkBasicPro which works quite well but the procedural basic it uses is for the birds! -OOP all the way, anyway I downloaded and installed the DX9SDK, and the DX9SDKUpdate(summer 2003). When I use the DirectX Sample Browser I can view/run the examples but if I attempt to open the source code (projects) included in the package, VStudio just sits there and nothing happens, Or, a msgbox pops saying "not a valid vs solution" (when it clearly is). Is anyone having this problem or doeas anyone know how to fix? If I satrt a new project in VB.NET I can make references to the new dx9 managed objects, so it''s not like I am missing dlls or anything. Anyone have any ideas - I''d really like to be able to see the source code for the samples/tutorials as I have NO experience in DX so I wouldn''t know where to begin without something to look at. One other issue, I read that I need VS2003 for the stuff to open up but when I looked in Help/About in VS I was on 2002 with framework 1.0. I registered my vs to get 2003 update and I installed framework 1.1, then reinstalled dx9 sdk but still no good. Also what is the deal with debug/retail packages. I have both installed (originally just debug) but still no go. Please, any help to get this going would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and sorry to be so overly verbose

Yes, the problem was that the samples can''t be opened in VS 2002 so what I did was start a new project and bring the .VB files into as Add Existing Item... neato, so now I can at least see what''s going on in the code.
