Hey Gamedev Community! I really want to create a simple particle engine but i dont know where to start... I just need a point in the right direction (tutorial, articles, tips, techniques etc...) i dont have much experiance with other particle engines but i THINK i have a vague idea of how they work... Correct me if im wrong, but i think that particles are just triangles with textures of the particle on them (just one technique) and that a transparency bitmap is used to get rid of the excess triangle... if this is right, then im halfway thare, but i dont know how to use transperancy maps... Any ideas? Questions? Answers? Chris

I found the point sprite example confusing, try

very plain and simple as long as you understand basic directx. I think it''s in dx8 but should be pretty easy to change to dx9
