Hey there im in the middle of making a wee space invaders type game to get the basics of game programming, I am using c++ which i know pretty well. So far its going pretty well ive got the player moving around at the bottom of the screen, shooting upwards and the enemies shuffling ominously (well maybe just shuffling) down the screen. Ive even done some collision detection which was cool. Now to the problem: ive got the mechanics of the enemies shooting done ok ie they can shoot down the screen ok, but im unsure how i would get ''random'' enemies to shoot at seemingly random intervals?? Any help would be much appreciated, cheers Thompsy

If you play the original invaders game, the shooting wasn''t totally random though.
I can''t say for sure what the metric used actually was, but definitely those closer had a higher probability of shooting than those aliens further away.
Remember getting stuck in the corners with the alien firing almost constantly to keep you in?

It may be worth getting Mame up and running to have a look just out of interest!

Best of luck with it.
