Linker is borked??

Somewhere during my coding session tonight my linker seems to have eaten itself. When I compile in Debug mode (VC++ 6), the EXE is filled with odd bytes that have no business being there, and the app segfaults immediately on start up (naturally). Switching to Release magically cures this problem and makes the EXE very clean. I''ve deleted all the intermediate files and such with no results. I''ve also disabled incremental linking, debug info generation, and a few other things, also with no results. I can''t seem to find the difference between Debug and Release that changes the output from crap to meaningful. Anyone have any ideas? I can post compiler/linker parameters if needed but for now I''m extremely tired and mostly just want to go to bed.
