[OpenGL] - Textures from auxiliary surfaces????

Is it possible to create a texture from an auxiliary surface? I want to draw a lot of polygons, etc... onto a texture mapped quad, and then create a new texture of that image to save me having to redraw all the polygons every frame, just a textured quad. Cheers for any answers.
