I''ve just started learning how to do 3D models for my first Direct 3D project. I had some good looking models that i made, but they are 2000 polygons each, and I''m going to have to render 24 of them at once (no animations). Is this way too high? Whats a good target polygon count per scene? And what''s the polygon count target for low, medium, and hi-res meshes? Thanks.

That doesn''t seem like too much, but you might want to consider some optimizations.

I don''t know if you are doing this already, so unless all objects are always on the screen make sure you are doing view frustum checks on all objects so you only draw the ones currently in view.

I definatly agree with using the view frustrum and in addition to that you should render objects further away with fewer polygons using a auto-optimization technique. This way 3D models further away from you look the same as the ones closer to you and you keep the framerates high.
