ShadowVolume to slow

I just added some ShadowVolume effects to my engine only to the main character. I pretty much designed it the same way as the sdk example but when its updating & rendering the shadow the fps runs at about 10-15 and without the shadows it will run at about 30 fps with everything running. And thats with only one shadow. I have a GeForce2. I know there are alot faster ways of creating shadow effects but I still want realtime shadowVolumes? any ideas to increase speed my speed? the sdk example runs at about 80fps but when its full screen its at 15fps so... thanks for any replies

there''s a thread called " shadow shader not working "where the shadow volume is discussed and the sdk sample also is disccused with the possible optimizations and bottle necks.see it.
