BeOS R5 and OpenBeOS. What's the difference?

But it seems that info on the OS is very scarce. I found the site for OpenBeOS but I didn''t understand the point of it since BeOS R5 came with the source. Does anyone have any definitive information on BeOS, what it is about, what exactly does it do, how is it different from Windows and Linux/Unix and Mac OSes? I''ll check the Palm website out since their officlal website said that Palm bought the software from Be.
