I was just wondering if anyone could give me advice about some of the things that would be involved in making a text based adventure game. I'm fairly new to programming and would like to start small. I would like to do it in C++ and preferably make it an RPG of some sort. Any advice would be appreciated or even a pointer to somewhere I can read about it. Thank you. Everything else depends on your:
1. Imagination
2. Understanding of the language

Edit: How do you make a clicky? It's not in the FAQ!

Search for info on the languages Inform and TADS. They are both languages and runtime environments specifically designed for text adventures. The common wisdom is that it is far easier to use an existing system (and those two are the best available), rather than write one from scratch.

Both those languages are not too far off from C. TADS is more object oriented I think.
