Software design books

Can someone suggest a great book on software design? I''ve read enough books on implementation/construction, but on large projects like games it''s all for vain unless you carefully design first -something I''ve paid for more than once . The problem is I am not very much experienced in that area, so if anyone could suggest a book on this area that contains proven techniques (perhaps deciding on hierarchy approaches and creating UML diagrams), that would be great. Thanks.

Who says you need books to learn how to design software? Just learn the basic design patterns and keep making programs. A good book doesn''t hurt, though. Unfortunately, I haven''t read any books like that so I can''t reccommend anything. However, I can reccomend dia, which is the gnu (and free) version of visio.
