map program

Can someone give me the name of a couple of good mapping programs.

What kind of mapping programs?
I mean like mapping for games. Other then that i wuoldn''t know what you mean.

I kind of depends on what game you are making maps for.
(ei. valve has Hammer, while Unreal serires uses UnrealEd).
ARE there editors that can be used to make games for different engines?
Most editors are engine specific, i.e. UnrealED for whatever version of Unreal, god only knows how many different Quake editors there are for the three Quake games. In short, you need to be a bit more specific.
He is looking for a program that creates maps. He just wants to create a level. He needs a modelling program like 3d max or something, right?
