Is the Font class and methods that come with directx Really that slow .... Say i Have a Game the you can bring up info on a object .. same a ship and the info is say Ship Name: Bug Buster Class : ... Engine: Devices 1-45 Optemim range: Etc.. (Think Eve Online - If you have ever played it) the info is a lot of text ... so in this case would it be better to make my oun font engine ... and if so are there any good tuts on ways of doing this???? also what ARE some ways, or ideas of font engine design??

I would suggest that you use the ID3DXFont interface that comes with DirectX 9. It was a little slow at first, but the summer update fixed that and it is pretty fast now.

If you want to repeatly print text make sure you use just the one ID3DXSprite object with your ID3DXFont object, that way you can just dump all your text through the one call to sprite.
