I recently had my box stolen and am thinking about getting a laptop so I can program/play games on the train ride to work.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a laptop with anything better than an 8 mg videocard. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on places to shop...my credit card is burning a hole in my wallet..
Well to start laptops are natoriously worse than a desktop so be sure this is what you want. They take more maintenence which is harder for a hobbyist to do himself (A desktop anyone can open up) and don''t perform as well... Oh and they tend to be on the expensive side in terms of what you get for your money...
Other wise if you still really want a laptop for portability go to a computer store and ask for any laptops with more than 8mb video cards! ;-)
They''ll know if they have anything or not! :-)
Good luck!

I am also looking into getting a laptop. One place to look is Dell. Try Dell's site and look for laptops. They let you build your own and see what the price would be. Not cheap stuff though, roughly $3500 - 4500 (Canadian), but the one I was looking at had 12 GB, large screen and a DVD player

No kidding these things aren''t cheap. I''m finding out the difference between a low end and mid range model is substantial both in terms of price and performance. For some reason the dealers seem to think that 32 Mb of ram is somehow standard......If only someone invented a detachable PC, that would be cool. You could set it home in its garage to charge up and link in to all the peripherals and stuff.
Well until that day I''ll continue my quest for a 16 mb video card....thanks
