Hi, I am interested in developing plugins for max 6. In the max sdk it says you need vs .net to compile the plugins. Do you think it would be ok to use any other c++ compilers? Thanks for any info

You should check out the MAX SDK website:

There you can find info on using other versions of Visual Studio to create Max plugins. Basically, when you write a plugin you end up allocating memory for things which you tell Max about. Later, the sub-systems in Max de-allocate this memory when it''s no longer needed.

The problem with this is that each version of Visual Studio has different memory headers, so if you compile your plugin with a version that doesn''t match the one used to compile Max, then you''ll allocate your memory on one heap and Max will try to release it form another heap. This will cause it to blow up

Anyway, they have some memory headers that you can use in place of the included ones. Go check out the website.
