networking for rpg's?
My self and a few friends are designing a rpg right now and im the programmer. Anyway, I have a few questions for you guys.
I need to add support for chatting (global messages), charactor interactions like inventory and such for trading/buying/selling
etc. Ive never really done any network programming though and
I have no clue where to start. We only want to have support for a lan connection for now however. I figure that all charactors including players and npc''s, just drawing info, position, etc will be needed most of the time, until commerse, which then can be accessed by the two peoples computer. hmmm.... I really have no clue though about this stuff, can anyone tell me where to go to learn it?
