What should I use?
I''m trying to decide what to use to write games. I have directX 9, Visual Basic 6, and C++. Which should I use?
ummm.... What to use is a very personal thing. The goal is to learn the ideas and theories, and they will apply to any new platform you switch to.
C++ vs VB... Which one are you more comfortable with?
DX9 vs OpenGL... Even though you haven''t mentioned OpenGL, it''s still an option. I found OpenGL much easier to start with. I''ve become quite comfortable with it, and am now finding DX9 very easy to work with. Nexe gives a basic difference here: http://nexe.gamedev.net/General/D3D%20vs%20OGL.asp

My personal favorite is VB6. Mainly because it''s the first thing I learned. I''ve tried C++ and I absolutely HATE it''s compiler. I haven''t really even looked at DirectX 9, but I figured I ask and see if anyone had any opinions on what would be the best to use.

um... there are many many compilers for C++... and you probably mean IDE anyway.
