ABT and polygon soup

Well, I got stuck. Problem is that I don''t know how to split ABT (with arbitrary number of polygons). My problem is that if I have about >200 000 triangles, how should I define place for splitter plane. Should I make some kind of distribution graph along XY, XZ and YZ planes and then split in two, trying to split in exact half? Also, if you have a house(or any other big object) that is made from about 25000 polygons, how should you incorporate LOD into your leafes, I mean, if I would simply store 1500-2000 polygons per leaf (or less), how would I know to scale LOD for so many triangles. Building should be done from highest LOD, but when splitting, I should account for every LOD level? Build another vertex pool?
