Free modelling software that export .X files
I''m looking for some software that''s free and exports to .X files. Some tutorials would also be nice. Anyone know of one that has a small learning curve?
Thanks.

blender3d: Freeware, can find plugins for .X. Big learning curve. (www.blender3d.org)
MilkShape3D: Trial version, exports to .X. Small learning curve. (www.milkshape3d.com)

gmax: exactly the same as 3d studio max except can''t render (it''s designed for use in modeling for games) and is completely free. www.discreet.com
You could also get the Maya 4.5 learning edition which is free and use the Maya exporter that comes with the sdk?
O'' yeah, and Deep Exploration will comvert almost any format to any format, including .x maybe worth a look?
Erzengeldeslichtes: Are there plugins that allow .3DS, .X, .MD2 export in gmax ?
Thanks.

Gmax is free, yet commercial. It works, but its file format is encrypted and unknown. It can only export to a few supported game formats, the only interesting one is md3. But then you are stuck with the quake 3 restrictions, like the model being split in 3 parts, head, body and legs.
I use anim8or which is 100% free, comes with manual, online help and a fantastic forum and it is extremely easy to use
You can export your creations to 3ds format then use conv3ds.exe to convert to x format. This works perfect, I should know I use it to get all my creations into DX9 using VB.NET
Check it out at www.anim8or.com
