Projection matrix

Does anyone know a good link where is explained how a projection matrix work ??? (especially the near and far clipping plane and the field of view)

Edition 1 of the OpenGL red book is available online at the link below:

The Red Book

Chapter 3 discusses field of view, and far/near clip planes, and a bit about the projection matrix. Appendix G discusses construction of the projection matrix. Many of us used this book to cut our teeth on 3d graphics!
