Skeletal Animation
Hi,
which model formats of the popular 3D engines ( Quake, Half-Life, etc. )support skeletal animation. And where can I get good descriptions of the file format. I am mostly interested in Quake 3 - do they support skinning and is there a good description of the file format?
BTW:
Which level files are well suited to load into a "learning" engine to practice some rendering. My problem at the moment is to get some data to play around with.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Please tell me your experiences!

The half-life model format uses skeletal animation, but Quake 3 does not. Its actually quite easy to implement md3 support, but that model format isnt so good, on the other hand... There seem to be absolutely no tutorials about loading half-life models... Only some bad source code in the half-life SDK.
You can load the HL Models into Milkshape and then export as x-file. This seems to work quite good.
What about the level files. Did anybody work with the Unreal *.t3d file? Is this a complete description of an Unreal Level. Did anybody tried loading it? There is a complete reference here:
