Does anyone here know if there are any online courses for embedded programming (with a real time OS also preferred) that are actually worth taking? Even better, would be a class that sends you all the hardware you need to get started as well, but that I could handle myself. I can't seem to find any actual "on-site" classes at local colleges or even private schools, so it looks like something online is my only choice. I was just told on the phone that if I had at some point taken a class in embedded programming (since obviously I have no work experience in this field), my chances for an interview would be much greater. Hmm, well I''m near Philadelphia, in NJ. Paul Yao has a class that lasts like five days and costs like $3,000 or something and even then, I''m sure I''d have to travel. Maybe I''m a little to skeptical but my red *ripoff* flag sorta goes up there...five days for that cost? I could probably take two full graduate level courses at my local college for that.

If I could find something local that was reasonable...(and not a blatant ripoff--I could accomplish whatever a five day class teaches on my own.) If the price made sense I''d try it, but I''m having no luck at all finding anything nearby. That''s why I''m thinking an online course might be the only choice. But with that, my internal alarm bells still want to go off--how can I know it''s going to be worth it?

Nobody has any experience with online classes?

Heh, I''d be perfectly willing to travel for a course like that if I had a company that wanted to send me, but...

I''d just recommend you train yourself.
Cheap options:
- buy some embedded system from somewhere and build some custom apps for it
and better yet:
- do work experience for some company building and developing embedded systems

You may need to do the first one in order to achieve the second. But its definatly cheaper, and it''ll look better on the resume than some two week course.
