DirectAudio playing with terrible quality

I used the DirectAudio8 tutorial here on gamedev to add some background music to my game (I''m using a MIDI). When I play the MIDI using Windows Media Player, it sounds pretty good, but when I play it in my game it sounds horrible. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have no idea what I''m doing.

I don''t know much at all about the DX audio routines, but my guess is that your audio code is playing the MIDI using a different MIDI mapper than WMP''s. Perhaps you need to enumerate and select the best-sounding MIDI mapper, if this is even possible? (Or better yet, make this a selectable thing in your code.)
