Thanks for this. I'm just getting to the point of looking at some tools. I have some tools not listed, but I've never tried them. They might fit in your "other" category All free I believe (comments are from the websites or posts I found them in):

Glue-It plug-in for DelphiX - Simple utility that takes a sequence of images .bmp and generates a full bitmap. Perfect for sprite sequence generation. (recommended on GameDev forums)
Tyler 2.0 - Similar to Glue-It, this program tiles BMP frames onto a single bitmap surface. (recommended on GameDev forums)
Fast Tile & Animator v1.0 by Lifepower - This program allows to put different images of the same size to one, big bitmap. The resulting image can be animated in different speed, scale, etc.
The above can all be found on the links here:
http://turbo.gamedev.net/delphix.asp

Mappy - A utility for creating flexible 'maps' for tile based 2D games (scrolling shoot-em-ups, or 8way scrolling adventures, whatever).:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/7336/robmpy.htm
(more editor links at bottom of that page too)

Free Fonts On-Line - these guys ripped all those cool ST and Amiga demo fonts and GIF'ed 'em up for ya to use in your games.:

A 2D sprite editor/animator:

Thanks a ton guys! I'll update with your links in just a little bit, when I get the chance. (I always research before I post, and then with the HTML formatting I do...it's a bit time consuming)

I mainly just wanted to announce that I'm working on creating another project. A thread, like this one, that will contain a wealth of information, and hopefully cut down even more on the number of redundant threads.

Thanks again for all the help and support. And feel free to e-mail or otherwise talk to the Administrators about getting this thread stickied. It is a goal of mine.

I tend to collect lots of links (Here's some more I posted once about 2D articles). So I have tons on most game dev topics, but I haven't gotten too far with game dev'ing yet so lots of the sites I haven't investigated much (just thought they'd be useful in the future). I'd be glad to share them if you want or I can just add to what you come up with later.

Ok, I've updated.

reana1, I've added in a few of your links. But a number were left out because they weren't software...or because they were more oriented towards programming instead of direct art. Still though...Thanks.

I've also posted my other thread, found here. It has links to information regarding game art Tutorials, and Downloads of things like meshes, textures, and more. Check it out!

(reana1, I'll post the link to the fonts in my new thread)

I've edited the list a bit, so now the name of the product is the link to it's page, and the URL isn't shown anymore. No big deal, but I did it for a few reasons. One, is that after making my 2nd thread list, I like the simplicity of it. Two, is that because the site now automatically displays the root URL for a link, it was redundant for me to show the whole URL. And Three, is that someday I may add little descriptive things beside the product giving more information about them...and I need the extra horizontal room for that.

Enjoy!

ArtRage is a free 2d program, really amazing at simulating oils, markers, pencils etc. I'm loving it, it's fun too.

Just giving this thread a needed *bumb*. Also, wanted to make mentioned that I added a note about the new version release of 3DSMax.

No one has been giving me updates for quite a while. You telling me that we've managed to hit on ALL the programs used for game art? Somehow, I don't think so.

Updated yet again with the above program. Made mention of the new Blender release. And moved ASE from the 2D section to the sprite section, where it really seems to belong.

request : i am a mac user and would like to know which soft is mac compatible. and while you're at it, you might as well which ones work on linux boxes too. i think this is a valid request because i know that all my graphic designer friends use macs (well, they are a lot in 2d, not really 3d) and i assume thus some users in this part of gamedev forum have macs too.

that will help a lot

great job veovis, by the way

You bring up a good point. Sounds like a nice project I can do, but it will take me a little while.

Also, if you "Edit" your posts, there's a checkbox to delete them.

I've already spoken to Digisoap about getting this thread and my Tutorials thread stickied. He doesn't seem too keen on the idea, but said he would discuss it with the other moderators. (there's already sticky threads in the Game Design forum).

We'll see. Thanks for the support though.

Gpoliece and eedok, both your links have been added. Thank you.

And to Bbalstrzmj90, Paint Shop Pro has already been in the list for a while. It's in the 2D section, under $100.
