Cold War: Melting Point (56k: be warned)

Recommended Posts

Cold War: Melting Point is a multiplayer modification for the Valve Source Engine. It will be released as a free download. The Site Campaign Mode: In the campaign mode players will play through one of many campaigns (Middle East and Eastern Europe initially, many more in the late releases). Each campaign will be played out dynamically, that is to say that next battle (map) will be dependant on the results of the current battle. So if NATO wins one map, the next map will deeper into the Warsaw Pacts initial lines. And the system isn’t so simple that it is just if NATO wins you go to this map, there are different “levels” of victory and they will all affect what map is next. There will also be strategic influences, such as oil (need it to run vehicles), food (affects initial health, moral, etc), and reinforcements, which is how many time your team can respawn. Fully Dynamic, allowing for a different experience everytime you play the game! Class System: In CW:MP we will be using a class system for the player's character. There will be 8 classes; Rifleman, Automatic Rifleman, Grenadier, Medic, Sniper, Forward Tactical Observer, and a class dependant on the map. The player will have a large variety of weapons to choose from, giving them thier choice. The team has been together since May 2003, and we are awaiting the release of the SDK, which will be in a few weeks. Have questions? E-mail Me ! We are currently looking to fill a few more posions on our staff, view our thread in the help wanted forum for more information. Examples of our work: We have more rneders in our media gallery as well as in in our artwork section of the forums! In the "Press" section on the site, you can read the interviews we've given. some folks are just a little lazy by nature..

a direct link to your thread in the help wanted forum might be helpful

(...although you probably wouldn''t want lazy people such as this on your team)

fantastic models by the way.

"multiplayer modification for the Valve Source Engine"

Did I miss something?
Is this a Mod for something or is it a stand alone app?

I which case, did you get a Source Engine licence?

All the guns seen there were both modeled and rendered in 3DSMax. The M-113 was modeled and rendered in 3DS Max as well. The other vehicles were modeled and rendered in Softimage|XSI.

It''s a mod for Half-Life 2. Not to many people have a few hundred grand laying around....

Fidelio66 : I don't think I ever said that, and I belive in my inital post I said that we are awaiting the release of the SDK in the coming weeks. But, to answe rin short, no we aren't using illegal stolne files

Hysteria: I really resent that. I posted this in this forum, and in the Help Wanted forum. I posted in this forum to announce the project, and I posted in the Help Wanted forum because I was looking for team members. I thought, based off of the names and descriptions of these forums, that was the correct course of action to take.

The same bump post? Could you please enlighten me on what you are refering to? I posted in the thread in the help wanted forum that we filled our audio designer postion and were still looking for 2D artists, in this forum I posted a sample of new audio for you guys to listen to, and, if wanted, to comment on it.

"bah go away"
I don't see what I have done wrong. I have followed the rules of the forums.

Also, I thought these forums were supposed to encourage the development of games and mods. Acting like that isn't encourging or useful. You tell me to go away because I seemingly violated your personal rules, which I don't see posted anywhere, while following the forum rules?

Unless you have something useful to say about the project or the works in the project, please don't waste space posting. If you have an issue with me or something I said or did, feel free to contact me via e-mail at SidewinderX@cw-meltingpoint.com or visit me on IRC, #cwmp on GamesNET. I'd rather not have childish behavior cluttering this thread.

Thank you.

... models of this quality? Get back in your hole.

The models are fantastic! I expect you guys will be in Hawaii sipping on cocktails soon if you produce that kind of quality work

How many people are on your team currently?

17 total. (it''s a lot I know, lettme explain)
4 membes of the core design team
3 Programmers (looking for 1 more)
7 Artists
3 Mappers

Those are the only the "dedicated" roles of the people. many members do multiple things... ie many of our artists are also mappers.

We still need 2D artists, most of our artists are 3D...

We have so many people because it''s a free-time affair, so we need a largeish team to get things done in a reasonable amount of time.

That modeling is pretty damn good!
How exactly does the modding work? Are you only buil
ding models as I would guess you need the sdk if you wanted to start coding?
