Multiple Animations in a single file

Recommended Posts

I was planning to have all the animations for my models in the same file as the model but when I started to work in milkshape I came to the realization that it would be difficult because milkshape doesn''t allow for me to play animation segments like only play 10-20. So now I''m not sure, would it be a better idea to have each animation saved seperately outside of the file? It seems far more messy that I would like it but I can make do if this is necessary. How do other games handle animation files? I think half life stores them seperatly in other files. ~Wave

if you are worried about the possible file mess, you can do like quake, and pack them into a file (uncompressed zips for quake3). Or you can ''export'' your file into another of your own file format, store the sub files as chunks of data in there. It''s certainly easier to keep them separate.
