Doom3 shadowing

Does doom3´s shadow technique uses the same process than the one described on a article about shadowing with d3d9 shown here? If yes, I cant believe how slow it can be. Sorry, I cant even write correctly my own idiom...

do a search in the "Graphics Programming and Theory" section, they had a good discussion of the topic there a while back.

IIRC, it was a highly optimized version of depth-fail (with capping/infinite projection) stencil shadowing.

Can you tell me the topic''s name or at least the topic starter? Cos I did a search on "shadows doom" at the Graphics Programming and Theory section and I had dozens of results (most of them useless for me)
the article is called the theory of stencil shadow volume.
