First the question and then the background: Question: For visual studio is there a global setting to set the debug symbol path or to seed it for new projects? Background: One of my co-workers showed me a neat trick with visual studio. You can get it to automatically download debug symbols for microsoft system dlls by adding "SRV*c:\debugsymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols" (no quotes) to the debug symbol path of a solution (RMB click on a solution->Properties/Common Properties/Debug Symbol Files). When the debugger breaks it will download the needed .pdb files (if needed) to the cache (c:\debugsymbols). Very nice! Helps cope with patched .dlls, etc.... The only problem is that this is a per-solution fix. You have to add this to each solution you create.
