Hi, I'm thinking of learning the DirectX API, but I want to start with 2D games before I move onto 3D (Yeah... I'm a nostalgic person). Can DX9 still 'do' 2D easily or should I use an older SDK like 7? I've been getting plenty of mixed messages about the different DirectX versions :S Thanks edit: should been in beginners forum really, sorry [edited by - Kris A on February 7, 2004 7:44:40 AM]

You can easily do 2D by using the ID3DXSprite interface.

Read about it in the sdk docs/msdn, or do some search on this forum.

If you''re completely new to DX, here''s a good intro that starts with 2D drawing:

http://www.32bits.co.uk/

(check the "tutorials" link)

Like almost all intros, it doesn''t show you 2D/3D for optimized apps, just gets your feet wet - but it is one of the better tutorials I''ve seen.

And once you''re ready to hit 3D, www.drunkenhyena.com is a great place to start.

Good luck!
