Has anyone used the oDepth register in PS 2.0 (and up)?

I''ve just been racking my brain trying to figure out a useful application for the oDepth register in PS 2.0 and up, and I was wondering if anyone had any demos (preferably screen caps, I''ve only got a GeForce4) of oDepth being used, or some applications of it.

I know I use it for some research apps I''m working on. But I''m working on hardware ray tracing using pixel shaders. I render a screen-aligned quad and use the pixel shader to test for intersection against the geometry. If there''s an intersection, I write out the depth of that intersection to the oDepth register.

I''m sure there are other applications that it could be used for as well.
