2 Textures smooth mixed on Ground via alpha

hi i have a large landscape and i want to know if the following idea is possible: i color the landscape with diffuse alpha,r,g,b using one texture..that works fine... but... is it possible with any texturestage setting to see the first texture if alpha on the vertex is 0 .. see full of an second texture if alpha=FF and a mix of both if alpha between i want to get a smooth line between 2 textures and use the alpha of vertices to control it (i dont need more than 2 textures) much thx for any help
