started working on a space shooter using managed directx
Hi all,
to learn the basics of managed directx I started working on classic space shooter
using managed directx/c#.
If anyone wants to take a look just follow this link: http://paralax.cmgep.com
It´s already a two level game, maybe you can tell me if it´s possible to have some fun
with it or what should be changed.
System.IO.FileNotFoundException when launching it....
Perhaps you forgot to bundle a needed file in the .zip file?

What´s your system configuration? Do you have Directx9 AND the Managed Directx Extensions installed?
Windows XP Pro with DirectX 9.0b SDK (Retail Runtime) installed and with .NET framework v1.1.4322 and Managed DirectX v4.09.00.0900 (got those version numbers by looking in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\FrameWork and C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Managed DirectX)
Assuming its nothing wrong with my configuration, another possibility would be if you have a hard-coded path somewhere in your code. A simple test for that would be to build a release on your box, and copy it to a different folder and run it.
If you want me to test another build, just post a link to it.
I''ve just had the chance to test your game, and it is running smoothly in my computer. May It be a DirectX Summer Update related problem? I have it installed, and as I said I am hacving no problems running it.
By the way, Hordak.. this is being a great coincidence.. am I right now doing my first game in MDX wich is a Space Shooter and was called at first Hordallic!!!! (Form Mettallic Hordes in Spanish XD) funny :D
Nice work there Hordak.. now I must leave to the faculty, but when I get back I will comment some things on your demo good work.
To Iterate is human, To Recurse Divine...

@Anonmous:
Maybe it´s really the summer update that is the problem. I tried to run the game in a different folder, even on another pc and on a friend´s pc. With the installed summer update it worked well.
You can check your dll versions in windows\assembly
the old directx dlls have version number 1.0.900.0
the one from the summer update have versino number 1.0.1901.0.
the summer update can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A6DEE0DB-DCCE-43EA-87BB-7C7E1FD1EAA2&displaylang=en
but the managed directx will not get installed per default with this package. it must be installed with a switch (consult readme) or you can also just unzip the install.exe and there should be a manageddx.cab contained.

thanks for your comment. please let me know when you have a demo level or something for your game done.

Yes! That was the problem. The DX9 summer update fixed the problem when i ran it with DXSetup /InstallManagedDX. It wasn''t very obvious that it didn''t update the managed DX by default.
Runs very smooth. Keep up the good work!
Thanks
