using lights?

well... I know how to set a light and bind a texture.. But my RenderSystem I am working on uses some kind of Shader system like the one that was talket about in the ''material/shader implemntation'' thread.. well.. the problem is how should I get the lights to the shader? I was thinking of having some kind of Light Cache thing, so I have to push all visible lights every frame to the RenderSystems LightCache and then the shader can recive the lights that affects the object. any other ideas?
