collision checking

my project is 2d game. my group choose Delphi to make it. My problem is I can''t check collision, My map is very big, I want the method to solve it. Other person suggest me that try to use Black&White Color Map to compare point walkable and non walkable (White = walkable,Black = non walkable) but i don''t know about it. May you help me, by post the answer about it or related link about it. Thank you very much.

try the demo. There are some shortcomings, but it's pretty good. There was another paper/demo in the same vein, but ca't remember where to find it. I think it was a demo made by Bouncer. It's a totally different system though, but still impressive.
