erm.. whoever that source of yours might be, either dont believe anything he''s telling you or assume that the opposite is true. depending on if he''s trying to fool you or doesnt know what he''s talking about ,-)

You are using vertex arrays still, however switching to something like triangle strips reduces the amount of data you have to store and send, which could help speed up rendering (if the bottle neck is geometry submission/translation) and is a bit more friendly to the gpu data wise

which of course only applies if the data can be stripified without having hundreds of single strips and becomes pointless (as mentioned) once youre in a higher resolution and do some texturing (ie. the moment you become fillrate limited)
