Homongeneous Coordinates

Can somone please explain what homogenous coordinates are and how are they used , specially in texture coordinates (s,t,q). I think this q has got a big role to play with glTexGenf thingy... could someone please explain how all these things fit together in short.. or perhaps give me some good links on this topic.

nVidia posted a demo&paper about homongeneous coordinates some time ago. Look at their developer site. It doesn't talk much about texture coordinates but the principle is the same.

nVidia papers are usually intended for presentations [ slides ] and they dont explain much.. i mean.. the maths underlying it. I want to understand the maths underlying it in details and maybe with a tutorial
