translating models

Hello!! I have a model, with x polygons in it. To translate it up/down/left/whatever is it best to loop through all the vertices changing each one? Is there a better way? AND i am calculating the centre of the object for collision, but when i translate the model, i will have to recalculate the centre of the object... is there a way around this?? Cheers in advance Paul

are u using OpenGL or Direct3D?

I would say to use matrices

// d3d
D3DXMATRIX matWorld;
D3DXMatrixTranslation(&matWorld, 10, 0, 10);
device->SetTransform(D3DTS_WORLD, &matWorld);
model->Render();

// opengl
glMatrixMode(GL_MODELVIEW);
glTranslatef(10, 0, 10);
model->Render();
