What I need to do is create a website where i can logon and update the news on the site by just type the updated news into a text box or something and it will update when i click on submit, so i dont have to edit the html code everytime.. Also is it possible to create a forum using Java? If so how?

well for websites you would use a Java applet to get content on the page especially often changing content (realtime). but to make a forum, and i think others would agree, you''d want to use PHP, SQL, or both.

You could also do everything you stated with servlets, you don''t need to have an applet, though that is certainly one route you could take it. PHP is a nice language, and certainly can make a nice forum, but there is no reason why a forum couldn''t be done with server-side java.

Applets are client-side only, so you can use them if you want for the form/input bit, but you''re still going to need some sort of code running on the server to accept that input and update the website. Java servlets run server-side for just this kind of thing. Or you could use an applet front end and something like Perl though CGI (but I doubt that you gain much by using an applet).
