Mipmapping queries

I was thinking of using mipmaps because there are many different sizes when it is generated am i correct to say this?.. i might want to use the .dds file (mipmapped generated) and say i have a smaller(A)(32*32) than the original .dds(256*256) file size which mipmap level will be used? also if i scale it double size(64*64) from (A) but still smaller than the original dds file which mipmap size will be used?. all these used in direct3d but on 2d concept. anyone?

A mipmap chain is continually halved in each dimension as it goes down a level. If Level 0 (top level) is 256x256 then:

Level 1: 128x128
Level 2: 64x64
etc until it reaches 1x1, then it stops.
