Learning game programming, slightly unorthodox
I am very, very interested in learning how to program games. However, I am _not_ interested in learning DirectX or how to use MS Visual C++. I just want information focused on something portable like OpenGL or simple like VGA graphics. Nothing too complicated. I haven''t been able to find anything satisfactory online. If you know of any resources, online or in book format, please let me know. (VGA is my preference)
Thanks in advance,
Josh

Well if you don't want to use MSVC++ then that's OK but then presumably you're gonna have to use something like Borland, DevC++ or whatever. These are all just IDEs, you'll still have to learn the core C++ language anyway.
As for OGL tutes, try nehe.gamedev.net
otherwise, try something like BlitzBasic. Fast, easy, cheap and has a great online community to help you out.
Cant help you out with VGA though.
edit: if by vga you mean something like the Windows GDI, MSDN is your friend or d/l the Windows Platform SDK.
