MD2 Weapon Animation

Hi. I am writing an app that animates QuakeII models loaded from md2 files. I have found reference to the fact that these models have a specification for the number of frames per animation. Specifically I am using the information at: http://tfc.duke.free.fr/us/tutorials/models/md2.htm Weapon models, however do not seem to follow this animation frame format. I have encountered a number of weapon (an non-weapon) models that use more/less frames in total than this. My questions are: 1) Does quakeII actually have a spec for the animation/frame relationship? 2) If so where is it posted/what is it? 3) Do weapon models follow this spec? 4) Is there a realy good tutorial out there on this?
