Why not write your own programming language then?

3D engines aren''t markedly different from each other. They''re utility software - infrastructure that allows you to get at doing what you really want to do. If you want to be a game programmer, use an existing 3D engine. If you want to be a graphics programmer, write your own.

The choice is yours.
