Keeping player attached to a surface

This is a bit hard to explain so here is a picture: The purpose is to keep the player attached to a surface. (Like the alien in the game alien versus predator). This is easy until the surface curves away from the player. If the surface curves towards the player the collision detection finds a collsion and can adjusts the movement, but when the surface curves away there will be no collision to detect. So how do I keep the player on a surface on a case like that?
