Why won't my texture lock?

D3DLOCKED_RECT rect; pTexture->LockRect(0, &rect, NULL, NULL); LockRect keeps returning that it failed no matter what I do. The texture is already initialized and renders just fine, but it just won''t lock. I tried replacing the last NULL with all of the flags available from MSDN but none of them made a difference. Any thoughts on what would cause LockRect to fail?

Nevermind, I just discovered that the problem was that I was creating the texture with D3DPOOL_DEFAULT instead of D3DPOOL_MANAGED
