Hey All, I know latency has been discussed in detail b4 on this forum but i can''t seem to find any statistics or online resources which discuss with respect to first person shooting games, where latency is critical: what generic ranges of network latency is deemed 1. excellent game play and user interaction realism with surroundings 2. still provides user interaction realism and playable gameplay 3. playable game play but unrealistic user interaction with surroundings The point of this is so i can discuss in my background section of my thesis the effects of latency. Regards, Khanage.

Just from playing FPS and programming exp. I would say :

1)0-60 ms, provides excellent interaction with enviroment and players.

2)60-120 ms, provides a fair playable experience, varies with game lag compenenation technolgy and speed of gameplay.

3)120-250 ms, usually loopsided and frequently frustruating experience( jumpy, lots of stuttering, and frequently getting killed by lower lag players )

250+ ms are usually unplayable.

Good Luck!
