About Starting Game Programming

Hey..guys (I know C/C++ ,java and a bit of ASM) ..what is better to start game programming ...choose directx (DirectDraw) , or pick a lib like Allegro ??.. and if the answer is Allegro where I can find lots and good allegro tutorials ? thx for ur answers Bruno B

I would start with SDL.
Then start with the tutorials at Cone 3d.

Also besure to download the documentation from the main SDL site.

i''ve attempted starting with a few libraries and got frustrated with the complexities. i just recently found SDL and i have been quite impressed. It is structured very effeciently

SDL is pretty good from what I have heard but for future reference, check out "Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX 8.0" by Jim Adams. Very good for just starting out, and geared for people who have done the switch from C to C++ (there''s a section introducing classes and other stuff).

Search it on Amazon. Even includes a sample game using everything described in the book, and some demos from the chapters (multiplayer clients, etc).
