When i do int maxpf = DescribePixelFormat(hdc, 1, sizeof(PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR), &pfd); it returns 99 as the max. Although if i check pixel formats using a program like glview, its says there are ~222. Now provided that glview isnt simply listing all possible pixel format combinations that exsist, and it is in fact listing all the pixel formats I support. Where are they getting the data for the extra 100 or so? Do you have to use some wgl function to get these?

correct.. the DescribePixelformat can only list visible and software contexts, not the newer floaingpoint buffers and p-buffer compatible formats. WglDescribePixelFormat should be your choice then.

i thing the extension is called WGL_PIXEL_FORMAT_ARB or similar.
