lighting problem when alpha masking

I''m rendering a scene and some object in the scene are alpha masked with glAlphaFunc(GL_GREATER, 0). This will make texture in the object will alpha=0 to be transparent. It''s all working fine untill I enable lighting. Objects that are drawn with alpha testing and lighting enabled will disappear. I suspect they a there but transparent. Does anybody know what the problem is??
