Idea for Nice Sprite

Consider an Explosion against a wall, Create a Quad against where it hit , the size you wanted but now you use another image like a heightmap to draw these pixels the correct Depth by saying [Assuming you have retraced the camera] Z += height(PixelX,PixelY) Would that not create a nice effect and then when you move around the explosion actually has depth You could create 3 Textures with 3 Height maps and then have three levels - would eat processor though

i *think* i know what youre talking about, but im not sure it would provide the effect you would want. you have to consider that the camera, when moving around, would easily dispell the effect your going for. it may only look right when moving directly toward and away from the quad''s normal.
